Fantastisch! - The new Mercedes Grand Prix Team

- Published on Jan 25th, 2010 by Adam Milleneuve

This is the new BrawnGP Mercedes Grand Prix car, and the 4th rebadging of the Brackley based team (BAR, to Honda, to Brawn...) - is this the best livery for them so far?  Either way it's going to be all over the media for the rest of the year with a certain legendary German driver at the wheel of the car... and Nico Rosberg.  What do you think of the livery - beautiful, ugly, remind you of any other car? Comments please!

On the livery, Mercedes had this to say:

The new silver and green livery creates a true marriage between the heritage of the Silver Arrows and the team’s title partner PETRONAS. The legacy of the Silver Arrows goes back to the 1934 Eifel Race when, on the evening before the event, the white paint was sanded off the Mercedes W25 race car to fulfil weight regulations (750kg formula) and the silver colour of the aluminium surface of the car appeared. This season, with the return of the Silver Arrows, the MGP W01 will shine in silver combined with a flow of iridescent silver and green shading. On the nose and other parts of the car, traces of black carbon fibre visible are visible – a reminder of the first Silver Arrow of 1934.

Everything's good, except the wing, could've been better background for PETRONAS...

It looks white in all places apart from the side of the sidepod to me. Not really silver enough.
That garish red helmet will look so out of place... but then the only time Schui used a silver one, he lost a championship. This is a fine superstition/bs test!

Poor old Nico. Here he was thinking he could be number one in potentially the best car of the year. Then Mick Schumacher arrives to steal his thunder. No doubt he will be number two for the year.

Real nice livery though!!!!!

It will, for sure, be interesting to see how Nico gets on in 2010, you never know - he may give the 7 time champ a run for his money... then again, maybe not. Ross Brawn has talked up Nico's chances, but at the same time said MS can be champ... hmm

MS will probably change his helmet to fit the team colours.... watch this space! I quite like the 'rubbed away' effect where it shows up the mercedes benz name on the engine cover - the true test will be on telly though - was strange lighting at the launch.

I'm still wondering what McLaren are going to do... what are the chances on them not being silvery-grey?
I'm sure Vodafone would be happier if the cars were red and white.
But what about orange? :D Like they used for the MP4-21/20/13/12 test cars?
They'll certainly be unmistakable...

But Vodafone couldn't sponsor an Orange car, as I'm sure Dave H was alluding too...

A blue McLaren anybody? They appeared in the late 70's for American races. Of course, they were usually in the day-glo Marlboro red of the time.

Piston Broke

The Mercedes livery translated to television very poorly. It looked like a dull grey primer/undercoat with no topcoat. Very, very dull. Must do better, Mercedes.
