Formula One's new Safety Car
- Published on Feb 26th, 2010 by Adam MilleneuveJust when you thought we're done with the car launching season, Sutton Images have posted this via their Twitter feed - Mercedes' new F1 Safety car. Wow, it's a far cry from the days of yesteryear....
Mercedes' really are using the fact that they supply for safety car to their advantage - global advertising for their flashy cars. For the car nuts amongst you this is an AMG tuned Merc SLS 63.

Wow, you almost start to hope Piquet will make his comeback in F1 soon..
Yuck. The SL was more butch.
I'd be intrigued to see if any kind of spoiler will be added as the SLS only has the small boomerang that raises at 74mph. Though, it could be entertaining as Bernd is expected to "drive it on its door-handles", we might get to see some sideways action!
Imagine if he spun it....
yeah not as butch as the SL. but its cool cos its different and retro. Hopefully it sounds as good as the SL did. I maintain that they re badge the Virgin F1 car. Don't get me wrong i'm glad there are new teams, but was happy to see the days of tailenders beign 5 secs off the pace long gone. It seems they could very well be back. I have faith that Lotus will pull that time back, in the wise hands of mike. But i do believe that nick has produced one of those 5 sec or more off that pace f1 cars before now.
It'll be virtually the same engine, if not the exact same engine as the SL, so will still sound godly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEKdLroZcjo
The SLS is too girly for that sound, the indicators look like eyelashes to me! A 21st century Herbie.
Oh, also, there won't be any crashes with doors involved anymore...
If you're referring to the Heidfeld incident in err 2002/03, it was the Medical car that got swiped. This year's MC will still have conventionally opening doors, so the potential for a repeat will be there.
My bad;)
