Impossible Is Nothing - Stefan Grand Prix Push Ahead For 2010 Debut
- Published on Feb 2nd, 2010 by Jack LamureStefan GP have made history. At least that's what they're saying.
Despite having no entry for the new season the team has shipped a container of equipment to Bahrain in preparation for the first race. They reckon this is 'historic', and maybe it is, but it also seems somewhat ill advised.
Ignoring the fact that they aren't on the entry list, with over a month to go before the season kicks off this is very premature. What if one of the current teams does pull out before Bahrain? Surely Stefan would want to do some testing, and all the kit they've sent to the Middle East would come in very handy.
For those who don't know Stefan GP, headed by Serbian businessman Zoran Stefanovic, have bought the 2010 Toyota F1 cars, designed and built before the team pulled out of the sport. They've also hooked up with some of the Cologne-based squad's technical staff.
And despite not being allowed entry to the new season Stefan are refusing to accept defeat. They've carried on working as if they were making their F1 debut on March 14th. This is the latest step on that impossible journey.

Driver-wise they're likely to take Kazuki Nakajima on board, the ex-Williams racer having strong connections to the Toyota team Stefan have sourced their equipment from. Okay, he's not the quickest racer in F1, and he's no longer Japan's brightest hope, but he does at least have recent F1 experience.
With rumours persisting that Campos Meta or USF1 wont make the start of the season Stefan GP may not be totally wrong to think they'll be on the 2010 grid. They will launch and test their new car in Portugal on February 25th where, unlike the teams signed up for 2010, they can do as much running as they wish.
Let us know what you think about the latest twist in the Stefan GP story.

Though being unlikely, i can still imagine bernie saying: ah well, lets give em a chance and adding them as the 14th team on the list.
Is Zoran Stefanovic on drugs? If not he should be put on some medication. Why spend cash sending freight to a fly a way race if you aren't entered. That is like Accrington Stanley sending their players to Wembley in the hope they may be asked to play in the FA Cup final. Where is this freight being stored exactly? I can imagine a security guard and DHL van driver having an argument at the gates of the circuit as we speak. "Sorry guv, I just get told to deliver the stuff, if you don't want it that's your problem, but I aint loading it back onto my van."
Agree that its like sending AS to Wembley, only its not Wembley. Here in the UK, yes, that would happen. Sadly.
However in Bahrain they would happily supply him with storage space close to the circuit and smile while taccepting his money, especially if he has lots of it.
Some marketing?? or 'attention seeking syndrome' (ASS)?? just like the lindsay lohans and paris hilton, but in f1 way.. phhh
I really hope they make it, so that we can enjoy wonderful press releases with sentences like this one:
“Anyway we are proud of us, and on our power of will, so we will keep going and show some new people belong in F1.”
Brilliant.
Well why not?
Mad individuals with more money than sense have in the past bought colour and a twist to F1.
More so than big manufactures, Sauber, Jordan, Minardi and many more. We all love an underdog.
Campos & USF1 have no car, no testing.
To offer a car that drivers could test without limit was the 1st clever thing Stefan GP did, now they have sent a container to Bahrain and plan to test on Feb 25th outside the F1 regs.
Good luck to them, they are being more of team/entrant than CampUSF1. I hope they get the 14th slot, but only after they have had chance to do some outside FIA regs testing.
Go Zoran!
Never give up! Never surrender!! (Especially to the FIA)

Have to love their website! Here's a direct link to this story on their website!

I get the feeling this site could be on POP a few times!!!
Thanks for pointing that out Chris T!
And yes I reckon StefanGP should have their very own mention in POP every week.

I'm a fan already, love the site. I won't spoil it here but there's another gem at the bottom of their job page.
I just hope they don't employ a marketing person who is fluent; what they have now gives them unmatchable character.
