Coulthard enjoys some Irish Doughnuts

- Published on Mar 22nd, 2010 by Adam Milleneuve

David Coulthard must have been twiddling his thumbs after all the pre-season hype ended up with a procession at Bahrain and with a whole two weeks until Australia he needed to keep himself entertained - so what did he do?  He went to Northern Ireland of course and with Red Bull, did a full Formula 1 presentation infront of thousands of fans in Belfast.

Prior to the event David said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit Belfast and bring Formula One a bit closer to the people of the City. I know Belfast is renowned for its love of motorsports and I’m sure I’ll get an amazing welcome as always!” - and it sure enough did look like a lot of fun.

is that a restricted engine, or a GP2 lump or sumin? the air intake looks like it has a restrictor in it. i've seen it in a few other pics elsewhere now as well. shame there wasn't more pics of the engine & gearbox, the arse end of that car was proper squished in there last year.

Is that an RB4? i don't remember the nose beign like that on an RB4 but it has conventional push rod suspension on the rear.

procession surely Adam?

These street events always seem to attract massive crowds. Wish they would venture further North.

It looks like an amalgamation of Red Bull's and Toro Rosso's. It's a mutant car!!

Sidepods and chassis cone look like RB6, engine cover looks like RB4, airbox and headrest look like STR2(!), rear-end could be anything, with the rear wing from RB5, and front wing and nosetip are also RB5.

All of the above might be wrong, and it could be a repainted Toro Rosso, with Red Bull bodywork bits added on the front and rear!
I think it requires more time and analysis than i'm prepared to donate to identify all the bits!

Wide of the mark guys ;) It was an RB1 complete with Cosworth V10 dolled up with bit to make it look like an RB5/6 thingee.. The rear hub had a "Showcar 2" sticker on it. and as for hybrid, the transporter was in Toro Rosso livery one side and Red Bull the other.....

yeah those exhaust outlets look very ominous. didn't think about the restrictor being cos o the cossie V10 that torro rosso/minardi would have been running. did the RB1 have a tub like that? those ridges look recent, although i remember them appearing on a few cars a few years ago and then disappearing, then making a comeback last year. This year every man and his dog has them

No it's not! I didn't go back far enough. It's an STR1 with RB5 bits and an RB4 engine cover.

I find it a bit of a con to be honest, because that particular car has never raced as a Red Bull and Coulthard's only ever driven it on shows. Yes it's an F1 car underneath, but i'd rather see a proper F1 car in its original clothes, even if it's 7 years old and wasn't particularly quick at the time.
The tour team should feel ashamed at themselves for letting that girl go out looking like that. I don't think people would mind seeing a Toro Rosso instead and they'll have something rather less hideous and deformed to take a photo of as well.

i agree. the thing is bloody ugly. They are ripping off the people who take the time to go, they should also be running a current engine, if only to give a true experience of the sounds they will get at a current GP.

Red bull should be ashamed. I'm going to give my old uni mate some shit. (he works for red bull as a race sparky).
