Set the alarm! - Aussie GP TV Times
- Published on Mar 24th, 2010 by Adam Milleneuve
This only applies to UK based fans really

Not only is the Australian Grand Prix on at a slightly inconvenient time on Sunday, but the clocks rather inconveniently change too, so if like Badger, you're in the UK, it's going to take a bit of effort to figure out when it's all happening down under this weekend on the telly box. Firstly, remember than the clocks go forward one hour on Sunday.
So here goes:
If you're a hardcore fanatic, then the practice sessions are shown on BBC Red Button and via the their website at these times:
- Friday Practice 1 - 01.30 - 03.00 (that's in the morning folks)
- Friday Practice 2 - 05.30 - 07.00 (ideal before work viewing?)
- Saturday Practice 3 - 03.00 - 04.00 (bloomin' early for a Saturday)
And then it the main show for the all important qualifying and then the big race at these times:
- Saturday - Qualifying : 6am
- Sunday - Grand Prix: 7am
Of course the actual telly box coverage will begin around 45-60mins prior to the start of qualifying and the race so make sure you tune in to the BBC's superb coverage.

ohhh whinging poms again! Having to get up early for 1 Grand Prix trying living in Australia..... if we want to see the race live we have to be awake Sunday night at 10pm for 11 races, 11pm for 1 race and between 12am and 2am for 3 races... so out of the 19 races this year 4 races are going to be before 10pm!! The earliest start is the Aussie GP at 5pm! Remember we have to work Mondays as well! Which makes for a hell of a lot of grumpy mondays.....
Try living in rural Australia with no hi def TV! The Bahrain race was shown at midnight in WA on WIN TV. They also cut the telecast before the podium and post-race press conference to show a Sade concert. And last season they didn't even bother showing the Turkish Grand Prix!
F1 isn't broadcast in HD anyway. Both my TV's are old analog ones with digital converters, the picture's fine on them and there's no reason to replace them.
I pity you with the bad local coverage though. In your position i think i'd be inclined to have online coverage running at the same time in case the tv company misses something.
*Rubs hands together* I'm all set!. I was trying to stay asleep til past 2pm today but body wasn't having it. No matter, it's just made it slightly more tricky to get the timing right.
No sleep til 3pm tomorrow afternoon, then i'll be awake and alert for P3 and qualifying, then drag myself to 8pm bedtime on Saturday night, wake up at 5am and bing!!
Maybe I should move to Australia. Here in the US race starts range from around 1am to noon. Joy. I especially like the fact there's about a 10 minute delay, so all twitter usage, timing apps, etc. are spoilers. And for some reason they only show Practice 2. Not 1 or 3, just 2. Australia's one of the few GPs I look forward to, because it gives us some reasonable times.
Our clock changed two weeks ago, which was a hassle with the Bahrain GP--it's like these things are scheduled to drive us insane.
May drag myself out of bed to watch this thing on Sunday morning. It's only 7am. Qualifying will definitely have to wait as I'm not going to be at home. Boo-hiss!
