Spanish GP - Friday Practice Times

Formula One finally broke it's 3 week silence this morning as the cars made their way around the Catalunya race circuit for the first of three practice sessions.

We'll be delivering a full report on the Friday practice session later this afternoon, but for now here's the headlines and the all important time sheets

Radical new Mercedes GP car with the traditional air-intakes being moved to the side of the engine cover, looks pretty impressive and it must have helped Schumacher because he finished the first session in 3rd, importantly ahead of his team mate.

Meanwhile, it's all smiles at McLaren with Hamilton heading a up a 1-2 in the first session.  Quite the opposite to Williams, who are now only ahead of the newbies and ended the session with broken cars.

Times in full:

In practice 2, Hulkenberg had a pretty bad looking crash, but emerged fine, but did limit his running to only 6 laps - adding further to Williams' poor start the grand prix weekend.

Red Bull came back fighting with Vettel and Webber taking the top two positions on the timesheet, a worrying clear near 8 tenths ahead of the next car - Michael Schumacher's Mercedes, which again convincingly took the third position.  Is it the return of the king - it definitely seems so, so far in Spain...
