Diary of an F1 Fan: My Canadian Grand Prix Itinerary

- Published on Jun 4th, 2010 by Looking Spiffy

In case you missed the introduction last week - Badger is publishing the travel diaries of a British F1 fan heading over the pond to the Canadian Grand Prix.  She's called Jade (known as LookingSpiffy on t'interweb) loves Felipe Massa, Ferrari, rock music and all things grand prix related.

With less that an a week to go before the lights go out in Montreal, here's the current itinerary for her trip.  Have a read, make any comments or suggestions and stay tuned for entries while she's out on the road... - Thanks Adam, Editor

Bonjour! Since the first diary entry, plans have become more concrete, dates have been set and excitement has been building. After the events of the Turkish Grand Prix, the Canadian event will likely have an even greater buzz of anticipation around it than usual, and the track usually springs a few surprises of its own, so the atmosphere should be electric!

Details of the Crescent Street festivities over the Grand Prix weekend have been released, with driver signing sessions, pit stop challenges, DJs and live music performances into the night. It should be a great place to meet up with other people going to the race. Joe Saward has announced a time and a place for his latest Audience with Joe, so on the evening of the eleventh I'll be absorbed in stories and discussions of F1 past and present in a cosy pub in the Old Montreal area. I've heard very good things about these events, so I look forward to it.

The road trip to Berthierville now looks more likely, thanks to the very accommodating, driving licence-having friend I'm staying with whilst in Montreal. Of course I'll tweet and blog what I see of the town where Gilles grew up, in addition to the Museum itself.

For the second week of my trip, I'll be heading west to stay with another friend in picturesque Ottawa for a couple of days, eating Beavertails – the pastry, not the real thing – and exploring, then on to Toronto for a long weekend and then it's over a six hour coach journey back to Montreal for my flight home. Because Ottawa and Toronto are such late additions to my trip I haven't had chance to look into what they offer, especially concerning motorsport, so I'd really appreciate any tips. Looking at my ever growing itinerary, the hours spent heading back to Montreal will probably be the only time I'll get some rest!
