Flawless Fernando Sizzles in Singapore

- Published on Sep 26th, 2010 by Adam Milleneuve

He qualified on pole for the second race in succession and today Fernando made his intentions clear around the streets of Marina Bay with a dominant victory putting him in sight of the championship lead.  Vettel did all he could to beat the Spaniard, but had to settle for second place, (maybe he's learned from his previous disastrous over taking manoeuvrings) while Webber managed an impressive third after taking an alternative strategy, stopping earlier than his title rivals during a safety car period.

The unluckiest man today was Lewis Hamilton who took advantage of a back-marker holding up Webber and managed to get alongside the Aussie but on arriving at the corner, the pair of them came together and Lewis couldn't continue, making it two non-finishes in a row.  He's not out of the championship running, but he's not making it any easier for himself.  Both drivers escaped any penalty with the stewards just declaring it a 'racing incident' - finally a good, sensible decision from those chaps.

Button had a quiet day, but finished a good fourth, keeping him just within the fight for the 2010 title.

Elsewhere in the grand prix, Koybayashi introduced some chaos by doing a Schumacher on Schumacher before stacking his car into the barriers while trying to do a quick in lap.  To make matters worse, Bruno Senna couldn't help but run into the stricken Sauber.  Nick Heidfeld, in his first race back in F1 also had a tussle with Schumacher which resulted in the latter having to pit for a new wing and a double non-finish for Sauber.  Massa rescued a dire weekend to come away with one point for 10th.

Other points of note from a rather entertaining include Kubica's impressive late drive with fresh tyres to overtake a car per lap for a few laps and the raciness of Mark Webber who managed to catch a pass a load of cars under the lights as well - good work.

Badger would also like to salute Heikki Kovalainen who took matters into his own hands to extinguish a rather large fire from the back of his Lotus Racing car - making up for the seemingly napping marshals.

What did you all make of the race today?  Loads of fun - let us know your thoughts below...

Nick

I don`t want anyone to EVER tell me Marina Bay is a boring racetrack. Chaos, overtaking, and a battle for the 1st place till the last corner is nothing but an exciting race!

i think, with a few tweaks, that track could rival interlagos for my favourite track of the year... it's certainly fantastic to look at - singapore looks breathtaking - can't wait to visit
