Klien replaces Yamamoto as Hispania merry-go-round continues

- Published on Nov 4th, 2010 by Jack Lamure

Rejoice fans of so-so Austrian racing drivers: Christian Klien will be in the Hispania car for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix. He replaces walking Japanese money dispenser Sakon Yamamoto at the Spanish squad for as-yet-unknown reasons.

Naturally he'll be lining up alongside Brazilian Bruno Senna at the 27-year-old's home Grand Prix, and will hope to beat the local lad as convincingly as he did at his last race in Singapore. There’s still no recall for Karun Chandhok, suggesting that the Indian drove his last race of 2010 back at Silverstone. Shame that.

Klien meanwhile is pretty chuffed to be returning to an F1 car.

"I am excited to come to Brazil where I already raced two times, the last time in 2005, and where I could achieve good results," said the former Jaguar and Red Bull man. "The circuit is quite challenging and we are racing anti-clockwise which is going to be tough for the neck.

"I am very happy to get a second opportunity to do another Grand Prix here after Singapore and I hope that we are doing a good weekend with positive results."

This has to be just a tad worrying for Senna, who expected to line-up alongside the unspectacular Yamamoto but now has the proven Klien to contend with. Remember, last time Christian raced he out-qualified Bruno by a second and easily had the beating of him in the race. A repeat performance of that is the last thing the nephew of Brazil's most famous F1 star needs at his maiden home event.
