Hot Rod or Hot Dog? The Top Dog!

Button.
Now, we know this is a bit of a leftfield choice, but bear with us.
We think, not only for his drive to fifth (from eleventh place on the grid) but also the fact he looked as though he could have got past Hamilton at the end had he really tried, he deserves to be Driver of the Day (aka our Top Dog)
Also, and this may have had some impact on our decision - he lost his World Championship and was threatened at gun point. While receiving the (albeit prestigious) Top Dog award may not compare to, you know, being alive, it'll hopefully go some of the way to assuage his disappointment at losing his title.
We at Badger have always liked Jenson Button - his calmness, his teamwork and his general coolitude (we know it's not a word, but go with us) all make us think he'd be one of two drivers we'd like to go to the pub with. Guess the other one if you can.
Yes, he hasn't been as fast as Hamilton this season and it's doubtful he ever will be, but he took his opportunities to win brilliantly. Perfect strategy calls towards the beginning of the season meant he won a couple of races, but unfortunately he never seemed like a real contender to defend his title.

And it's worth mentioning he stayed cool when he had 4 guns pointed at him during the race.
Wheel guns that is...
hehe, very good!!
I've written this several times this season; Button has not once looked like a World Champ this season. Take the wins away (which ultimately were great strategy calls, not fast overall pace), and it's been an extremely mediocre defence.
In my mind, there's only been one race where he was at the forefront the whole weekend, and that was Monza. The rest were fortunate strategy calls and fortunate results due to other driver errors.
I'd still put him up there when looking at this years top drivers, but he's been beaten by Hamilton on speed and consistency, which ultimately counts.
Why Button? I thought Badger's Top Dog was based on performance and not some sort of consolation award!
I would've chosen the Hulk ... he was the man of the hour: stellar qualifying results, and a very good race ... even Hamilton couldn't overtake him!
True, see your point, but Jenson needs something this year! The Hulk did a great job indeed!
I too would be reluctant to hand it to Nico despite the pole. Yes he did do a good defending job for the day on Sunday, but he went backwards as the race progressed. In fact it was his lack of pace which ensured Jenson would jump up the order by taking an early stop. It was also Nico's lack of pace which gave Red Bull their comfort gap, so yes Hulk was central to the big events of the race but it wasn't through doing anything spectacular in the car!
Sometimes calling Top Dog is very tricky, i think i would've not chosen one as no one did an outstanding job.
Sorry, but I would say that he did something spectacular in that car
by qualifying in pole position. This is spectacular, because from the
season results, it is clear that the Williams doesn't have the pace to
fight for the leading positions.
Since he was driving defensively, he wasn't taking the optimal lines
into the curves, thus losing time.
Additionally, how many cars and drivers can actually keep up with the
Red Bulls? Besides McLaren and Ferrari with talented and *experienced*
drivers like Hamilton and Alonso, not that many.
For a rookie in that car, I would say it was a fantastic performance.
