F2 champ Stoneman adds John Cobb Trophy to 2010 haul

2010 Formula Two champion and recent F1 tester Dean Stoneman has been awarded the John Cobb Trophy - an annual award presented by the British Racing Drivers' Club to the competitor who has achieved successes of the most outstanding character during the past season.

Dean was presented with the award by 1996 F1 champion, and now BRDC Chairman, Damon Hill. He got the nod from the judging panel for the display of attitude and spirit that helped him win the F2 crown at the first attempt. Stoneman thus earned himself a test drive with the Williams team in Abu Dhabi, impressing the team with his quick adaptation to F1 machinery.

"It makes me very proud to receive the John Cobb Trophy from the BRDC, especially when you look at the previous winners," said Stoneman. "To be recognised by the BRDC gives me a real feeling of acceptance from members and leading drivers.”

Dean joins a list of past winners that includes 2008 F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, former F1 racers Mark Blundell and Johnny Herbert and three-time Indycar title-winner Dario Franchitti.
