Life Before F1
The son of an influential motorsport man, F1's youngest ever driver's CV is, as you'd expect, pretty short. Moved from karts to cars in 2005, raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2006 and '07 and then won the British F3 title in 2008. Was barely halfway through his rookie season in Formula Renault 3.5 when he made his F1 debut, without any testing, at the Hungarian GP of 2009.
F1 Career
The first F1 driver to be born in the nineties carries the weight of the decade on his shoulders. F1 driver by day, Jamie is also (an apparently popular) DJ on the house music scene by night and, if reports from our younger readers are anything to go by, well in to the next morning.
Algueruari was parachuted in to the Toro Rosso team mid-way through 2009 to replace the struggling and permanently grumpy Sebastien Bourdias. With no testing it was a tough gig, and Jaime was retained almost as an apology for the task the team had given him the previous year.
2010 saw him build his experience and, by the end of the year, look a better long-term bet than team-mate Sebastien Buemi He subsequently got some encouraging words from boss Franz Tost:
"I'm looking forward to next season because I think [Jaime] has matured enough to continue improving himself," said Tost. "He still needs a good car, and then I'm convinced he can do an even better job."
It's vital he does - with Red Bull-backed talent like Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne waiting in the wings a poor 2011 could see Jaime out of a drive before the season is done.
