Barcelona Test Day 2 - Diffuser Delirium
by Jack Lamure on Feb 19th, 2011Day two of F1's third pre-season test has come to an end in Barcelona, with reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel topping the times once more in Red Bull's RB7.
Badger's buddies Octane Photos were busy shooting the action once again, and have provided us with a proper look at the 2011 cars' diffusers. Snapper Craig explains:
"What would an F1 shoot be without a set of shapely rear ends.... okay, in this case it's a comparison of the rear diffuser and wing setups on the grid. McLaren were spared the critique not by any kind of team loyalty, but because they were sat in the garage broken....."
Check out the diffusers shots below, and see here for Octane Photos shots from yesterday's test.

Any chance you can use a decent wordpress photo viewing plugin?
Oh,i take it back, it just wasnt working. All good now.
Good to hear
Looks like the HRT is simply their 2010 car, no attempt at an interim configuration. Non-adjustable rear wing, double diffuser.
It is the 2010 car. They're not planning to run the 2011 car until March.
March 2011 or 2012?
That Williams rear end configuration is something else. Looks like everything is focused on the rear wing upright strut, incliding the differential! From all reports it's rear grip is phemomenal, it's the front end that's the issue.
One small failure could be catastrophic for the car though, too much is dependant on that one column.

In the second shot of MGP's testing-spec W02, you can see that it has four exhaust outlets (2 aimed at diffuser's upper surface, 2 aimed at the starter slot). This probably allows them to test two blown diffuser options by simply adjusting a valve rather than spending time on changeovers.
Edit: ScarbsF1 just informed me the circular object through the starter access slit is in fact the starter hole itself, offset to the left side of the gearbox. Not a Ferrari/Virgin type blown slot.
can any one please provide a Mclaren rear end? it seems to be the only one misssing here.
Unfortunately the McLaren was stuck in the garages whilst this series of shots was being taken.
