Smokin' - It's the new retro Williams livery!

by Adam Milleneuve on Feb 24th, 2011

It's been rumoured for sometime that the final 2011 Williams livery would be a retrotastic effort, the question being, which era would they go with - there are so many great Williams liveries that whatever it would be, it would be great ...well, as long as they didn't mean the Winfield era of cars.

...thankfully they didn't and here's the 'new' livery for 2011 - paying homage to the 1996-ish era of Hill and Villeneuve.

It's very much a remake of the Rothmans livery and that's a good thing.  Hopefully, for Williams it will also mark a return of those championship winning days.

Very happy on two counts 1; It looks great and 2; I't's retro! I'd have looked a little stupid if it wasn't

I'm pretty happy with what the team's done, not only does it bring back great memories, but also doesn't ruin what (in my eyes) is the best looking car this year!

I like it a lot, Williams has always been a blue and white car to me hence the FW14 and FW16 models on my shelf

I wouldn't really call it "retro" as to me that tends to mean not part of the modern age. And i class the 90's as still modern! But still, nice-looking as Williams cars tend to be. I'm not holding my breath for a leap forward from them, but they're not likely to go backwards; heading the midfield again probably.
They have gone a bit radical with the rear end, and as with most things radical it looks silly, with the body ending before the rear wheels and the suspension taking on the appearance of scaffolding bridging the cap between the chassis and the wing.
They wouldn't run it if it didn't work, but whether it'll be reliable to have a small gearbox and strange driveshaft angle is another matter.
