Badger Gallery: GP2 Testing At Silverstone

- Published on Apr 6th, 2011 by Jack Lamure

The race to join the 2012 Formula One grid has well and truly begun, with testing for this year's GP2 championship getting underway at a distinctly soggy Silverstone yesterday. Former Renault driver and pre-season title favourite Romain Grosjean set the pace, lapping the Northamptonshire circuit nearly half a second faster than Arden's Josef Kral. The Franco-Swiss racer has already claimed the GP2 Asia title, and now looks primed for an assault on the main series.

Octane Photos have been at Silverstone capturing the young hopefuls in action, providing us with the great gallery below. There's  more coming from today's running - which was mercifully dry - very soon on Badger.

Just like Martin Haven, I have trouble remembering the GP2 team liveries and which drivers are in which cars at the start of the season. But here's a few things I've picked up so far: The ART team, in green and yellow lotus colours, are allied to Renault (Lotus) F1, while Team Air Asia (one of several red and white teams) are allied to Team Lotus F1. Also, lots of the cars seems to be all blue. Maybe this will change by the first race...

Whilst the DAMS are also aligned to Renault and run in their 2010 livery. Confusing stuff, aye?
