Lotus confirm Caterham purchase - no news on team name future
by Jack Lamure on Apr 27th, 2011As expected, Team Lotus has today confirmed that it has purchased iconic British sportscar manufacturer Caterham.
But despite growing rumours in recent days, no announcement has been made as to the future of the Formula One team, who are still battling to retain the use of the Team Lotus moniker. It had been suggested that they could switch to the Caterham name, but Fernandes appears keen to fight for the name made famous by Colin Chapman. However should he fail in his bid a change to Caterham seems his most likely option.
Speaking about his acquisition today, Fernandes said: "Caterham has a unique place at the heart of the motoring world. As well as being proudly and staunchly British, it has an enviable and uniquely unblemished reputation within the industry for performance, handling and engineering excellence.
"Caterham Cars has remained wholly faithful to Colin Chapman's philosophy of 'less is more', and the DNA of the original Seven can still be traced to the newest additions to Caterham's product offering."

Would make a lot of sense to change their name to Caterham next season imo.
Would at least stop all the legal shennanigans...

You know the website linked to is fake? Or appears to be be. take a look at the whois - very different from their others. The spelling error and old logos also give it away
Thanks Rachel
Interesting, since I first looked, they've corrected the spelling mistake and removed the box to collect emails
I hope they also succeed in their bid to buy the rights to produce and the tooling for the old Lotus Elise. Last i read was Caterham were attempting to gain it.
I hope Carerham have already bought the rights because I suspect Group Lotus might now be rather hostile to the idea, especially if they lose the court case.
Here are our thoughts on this recent acquisition and why Caterham & Team Lotus will make a great team:
