Nasr on form for British Formula 3 Easter Weekender

by Jack Lamure on Apr 25th, 2011

His name is nearly identical to that of a Formula One driver, and if he carries on the way he's begun this season it won't be too long before Felipe Nasr is among the grand prix elite himself.

The 18-year-old Brazilian has enjoyed another impressive weekend in the British Formula 3 championship, taking runner-up spot in Saturday's opening race at Oulton Park before coming home fifth in the first of Easter Monday's two events.

But it was in the afternoon's feature event that the Brazilian really made his mark, scoring a lights-to-flag victory aboard his Volkswagen-powered Carlin-run Dallara. That made it three wins for the season after his dominant opening weekend at Monza, where he took victory in two of the three runs at the Italian track.

“This was another special win and very important for our championship," Nasr said afterwards. "I had a good start and managed to pull away, and from then on I just concentrated on not making any mistakes and putting in good lap times. It just feels really good to win again.”

The Brazilian leaves Oulton Park with a 34 point advantage over countryman Lucas Foresti, who scored his maiden series win on Saturday, in the drivers' standings. There is still a long way to go, but Nasr looks more than capable of emulating the likes of Jaime Alguersuari and Daniel Ricciardo, both of whom have taken the British F3 title for Carlin in recent seasons.
