Recovering Kubica to leave hospital within Ten days

Injured Renault star Robert Kubica has thanked his fans for their good wishes following his rally accident in February, and says he expects to leave hospital in little over a week to begin his pursuit of a return to F1.

The 26-year-old suffered severe hand and leg injuries whilst contesting the Italian-based event, forcing him out of action for what is almost certain to be the entire 2011 campaign. However the Polish racer is confident that he can return to the sport despite the extent of the damage suffered in the accident.

"I am starting to feel a lot better now," Robert reported in an interview with the Renault team's official website. "My recovery is moving in the right direction: my strength and weight are increasing day on day and as a result I will leave the Santa Corona hospital very soon."

Kubica added that whilst he doesn't yet have an exact date for his departure from the hospital he believes it will be "within the next 10 days."

Speaking of the support received from fans around the world Kubica said: "I must admit that it’s been overwhelming and it’s helped me a lot. I really didn’t realise that quite this many fans were supporting me. I’m very flattered and I promise them that, when I’m back, I’ll give them my absolute best

"I’ve watched [the races] and there is no doubt that it’s been a strong start to the season," he said of his Renault team, who scored podium finishes in Australia and Malaysia thanks to Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld respectively. "The guys did a great job with this car and I’m sure they’ll continue to improve.

And, in concluding, Kubica was full of positivity when asked if he had a message for his fans.

"Just continue to enjoy the F1 show even though I’m not there at the moment. From my side, I’ll try to use my difficult experience to come back as strong as I possibly can."
