Force India issue Sutil statement
by Jack Lamure on May 17th, 2011Force India have issued a press release regarding Adrian Sutil's position at the team following confirmation that criminal charges will be brought against the German after an incident in a Shanghai nightclub. The 28-year-old is alleged to have caused physical and grievous bodily harm to Eric Lux, a boss at Renault F1 owners Genii Capital.
And, with media speculation growing that Sutil could be dumped in favour of countryman Nico Hulkenberg, the Silverstone-based outfit have moved to confirm that there will be no driver change for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.
"Force India Formula One Team is aware of the statements made by both its driver, Adrian Sutil, and Mr. Eric Lux of Genii Capital, pertaining to events following the Chinese Grand Prix.
"Although the team continues to monitor the situation, it remains fully committed to its driver line-up at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix," the team said.
Is there anything to be read in to the wording of the statement, which only confirms that Sutil will be in the car at the Circuit de Catalunya? That remains to be seen, though the fact that Force India have one of the most able reserve drivers in the paddock is bound to keep speculation of a change running.
Sutil, for his part, has vowed to clear his name via a statement from his manager.
"Following the recent press statement issued on behalf of Mr. Eric Lux, it has come to our attention, that he intends to submit a criminal complaint against Mr. Adrian Sutil regarding an incident that took place following the Chinese Grand Prix," Manfred Zimmermann said in statement to the press.
"Adrian has already explained, that his actions in China resulted in the accidental injury of Mr. Lux and has apologised unreservedly for his involvement in this unfortunate event.
"Should Mr. Lux proceed with his complaint, Adrian will use every available means to clarify his position and clear his name.
"In the meantime, no further comment will be made on the matter as Adrian continues to focus on the forthcoming races in Barcelona and Monaco."
