Petrov hurt in Monaco shunt

by Jack Lamure on May 29th, 2011

Vitaly Petrov has become the second driver this weekend to require medical assistance, following a late race crash in Monaco.

The Russian was part of a gaggle of cars battling for position as the leaders approached to lap them. As they ran through the Swimming Pool section Adrian Sutil slid in to the barriers in his Force India, setting off a chain of events that ended up Jaime Alguersuari mounting Lewis Hamilton's McLaren and Petrov hitting the wall at turn 16. Whilst the accident was not all that dramatic looking it was enough to leave the Russian unable to exit the car unaided.

No concrete news on Petrov's condition was given, though the team did report on their official Twitter feed that "Vitaly is talking to us, reporting pain, not getting out of car without medical assistance.”

Petrov was removed from his stricken machine and taken away in the circuit ambulance. His accident is the second worrying incident of the weekend following Sergio Perez's massive crash during yesterday's qualifying session.

I think they should remove the lump/bump in the road, there are just to many accidents in that spot, they have all been very lucky they have not been injured or killed
