Dean Stoneman is getting better!

by The Badger on Jul 17th, 2011

Dean Stoneman, the 2010 F2 Champion was diagnosed with cancer after picking up his crown and test drive with the Williams F1 team, but following treatment the young British motorsport hopeful is definitely in the fast lane to recovery.  He was at the British Grand Prix last weekend, met with Patrick Head and some friends.  Hopefully, it won't be too long before we see Dean behind the wheel again.  Here the official press release after Silverstone...

Dean Stoneman visited the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend and took the opportunity to not only see qualifying, but to catch up with his F1 friends in the all new Silverstone paddock.

The reigning FIA Formula Two Champion spent time initially at the BRDC where he caught up with a number of key members before accepting an invitation for lunch in the AT&T Williams motor home by Patrick Head.

Dean was delighted to be back in a race paddock. “It was really good to be here and to meet up with so many friends and see the new Silverstone wing building. The BRDC have been so supportive of me during the past 6months so it was great to meet them here for the GrandPrix.” He added: “I would also like to thank Patrick Head and all at AT&T Williams. It was very kind of Patrick to invite me for lunch and spend time discussing everything in the middle of their busy race weekend.”

The AT&T Williams team is special for Dean having impressed them when he tested the 2010 car last November in Abu Dhabi. The FW32 is the last race car driven by Dean prior to his diagnosis and the meeting with Head certainly buoyed the 20year old. “I made a deal with Patrick that I would do my best to return to full fitness if he could do his best to get me back in a AT&T Williams F1 car.”

Stoneman continues to make good progress as he receives treatment for cancer. Further information and news on Dean can be found at : www.deanstoneman.com

What a perfect news! I'm sure Dean will be a symbol of those, who could fight the illness and win. Will see him in F1, he's good enough. Good luck!

Fingers crossed for the recovery. For me he was the most impressive young driver at the Abu Dhabi test last year, even thought Riciardo took all the headlines and top times in the clearly superior Red Bull. I hope he beats his cancer and gets the F1 drive he deserves.
