Mark Webber snatches Pole while Lewis looks a bit lost

- Published on Jul 9th, 2011 by Adam Milleneuve

The weather at Silverstone has been massively indecisive since Wednesday and today continued with that trend...

Round 1 - Disaster for Toro Rosso

The track was busy from the green light onwards with everyone piling out the pit lane, to ensure they secure a good lap before the bonkers British summer weather decided to turn. With only 4 minutes remaining the heavens opened once more across the Northamptonshire circuit, and Toro Rosso couldn't do anything about Buemi and Alguersuari, who finished in 18th and 19th.

Another mini celebration for Team Lotus with Heikki grabbing a place in round 2.

In this round we lost:

18th - Jaime Alguersuari
19th - Sebastien Buemi
20th - Timo Glock
21st - Jarno Trulli
22nd - Jerome d'Ambrosio
23rd - Tonio Liuzzi
24th - Daniel Ricciardo

Round 2 - Wet or dry?

With the rain clearing before Q2 got underway, the remaining cars piled out once more and the track quickly dried causing drivers to switch from intermediates to slick tyres. Adrian Sutil was beaten and by his team mate once again and knocked out with his best time only being 11th. Schumacher's performance will have disappointed Mercedes GP - while Rosberg went through to Q3, Michael could only manage 13th.

After a promising start to qualifying, Rubens bowed out in 15th along with Petrov and Heidfeld in 14th and 16th respectively for Renault. Team Lotus' may have made it through to Q2, which is great for them, but 17th was all Heikki could manage beyond Q1.

Knocked out:

11th - Adrian Sutil
12th - Sergio Perez
13th - Michael Schumacher
14th - Vitaly Petrov
15th - Rubens Barrichello
16th - Nick Heidfeld
17th - Heikki Kovalainen

Round 3 - The shoot out… or not

Qualifying in 2011 has been a little uneventful with the new tyre regulations changing the tactics of the teams and drivers to focus more on Sunday and fresh rubber, than going all out for pole. At Silverstone though, the aforementioned bonkers weather became even more annoying when a down pour arrived across the circuit and effectively rained off the session.

Lewis Hamilton will be one of the unhappiest men in the paddock with his dismal home GP performance, while Mark Webber will be chuffed to have got one over on his usually-dominating team mate.

The Top 10 for the grid on Sunday:

Pole - Mark Webber
2nd - Sebastian Vettel
3rd - Fernando Alonso
4th - Felipe Massa
5th - Jenson Button
6th - Paul Di Resta
7th - Pastor Maldonado
8th - Kamui Kobayashi
9th - Nico Rosberg
10th - Lewis Hamilton

I was very silly I went for vettel for pole and knew through out the qualy show mark would get it. Mark was dominated in qualy since redbull introduced programming to effectively automaticly do a throttle trick that mark was doing manualy to blow the diffuser mid corner last year. (that is what they mentioned on the bbc show as well, they said engineers in the paddock think the ban helped mark specificly) sebastian could not and still apparently cannot get his head around this trick if the rules remain the same (which they look not to) expect to see their battles alot closer.

Also seb was lieing about not being concerned, look at his bottom lip in the post qualy interview. (not the top 3 one, the one outside in the rain) He's been biteing the corners of his lip (or eating indian food.)

oh ferrari are going to fall back tomorrow they still seem to believe they can't use the hard tyre. Redbull could have reliability issues with their renault engines now either way JB for a podium and well done di resta!!!
