Sky confirm 2012 F1 team

by The Badger on Dec 7th, 2011

Sky have announced their TV team for 2012, with no less than five former BBC employees switching to the broadcasters.

Martin Brundle will front the coverage alongside Simon Lazenby, with Sky stating that Brundle will be 'on air during every day of each grand prix, dividing his time between paddock, pitlane and commentary box.' Lazenby is a Sky veteran who has predominantly worked on rugby coverage.

David Croft joins Brundle in the commentary box whilst Anthony Davidson will join Croft for commentary duties during practice sessions.

"In Martin Brundle we have the outstanding F1 broadcaster - on the track and in broadcasting, he's proved it time and again," commented Sky Sports Executive Producer Martin Turner.

"Working alongside him, David Croft is a passionate, experienced commentator and Anthony Davidson can bring great technical knowledge to live practice sessions."

Both Natalie Pinkham and Ted Kravitz will continue their pitlane roles, with Kravitz also co-presenting the magazine show alongside Sky regular Georgie Thompson.

Meanwhile veteran motorsport presenter Steve Rider will stage a series of interviews with racing legends of the past and present for Sky.

"Ted Kravitz has huge knowledge of the pitlane and paddock and he and Natalie Pinkham will get the information and access our viewers need," added Turner.

"And guiding us through the coverage we have the experience of Simon Lazenby and Georgie Thompson. Each has hosted major sports events, from the British Lions to the Ryder Cup - they have trust and respect."

In Brief:

  • Commentators and pundits:
    • Martin Brundle, David Croft and Ant Davidson
  • In the pitlane:
    • Natalie Pinkham
    • Ted Kravitz
  • Also involved
    • Steve Rider - interviewing racing legends.
    • Georgie Thompson - co-hosting magazine show with Ted.

Was hoping there might be more people from the team when they had F1 Digital plus, Damon Hill and John Watson but its a good team. I like Anthony Davidson especially Brundle will be good. Suprised they got steve rider

NOOOOOOOOOOO! I cannot believe that they have poached All my favs from the BBC Coverage... :( Being a student, I won't be able to afford sky, this is a shambles! Damn you Bernie! Damn you BBC! (I don't throw my rage at SKY cos if I was them I would have loved to have F1, Its the others fault for letting them... )

Anyone know of any good Live stream sites for SKY? Or am I gonna have to trudge down the local piss up at 6 in the morning if I wanna watch all the races?

This whole thing is so annoying! like Gareth im a student so no way can i afford it and even if i could i am hardly ever at home or my flat to watch the GP anyway. the joy of the BBC was that you could watch it where ever you wanted! And what is bernies obsession with them being shown in the middle of the day?! Early starts are great sometimes. you can get up watch it and then have a full day left!
Even if sky made it possible to subscribe race by race for there internet service only (maybe £15 or so for the race?) would be great! could and would pay that much but its impossible for me to pay the full subscription so looks like ill be streaming it illegally...
And yeah they just went and poached everyone that made it good on the BBC.....

Type in "live sports stream" to google the 1st and 5th result should be all you will ever need.

Pity to lose Simon Lazenby from the rugby, but this must be a high profile promotion for him...good luck. F1's gain is rugby's loss. Not sure if I agree with Sky getting the F1 , but will give it a look and see how it goes.

Its all very well saying get a live sports stream but you need fast broadband for that, not available where I am 5 miles from the exchange on a bit of old copper wire. I am not paying for sky while I have to pay the bbc as well. Must get my mate to record them and send me a disc
