Senna signs for Williams for 2012
- Published on Jan 17th, 2012 by Craig NormansellWilliams F1 today finalised their driver line-up for the upcoming 2012 season by signing former Hispania and Renault driver Bruno Senna. The Brazilian's profile - complete with a shot of him in Williams gear - appeared on the team's site this morning only to be hastily removed. It is, however, effectively final confirmation that he has landed the much sought after berth.
The Brazilian was one of three drivers linked with the role since the finish of the 2011 season. Adrian Sutil had been the strong favourite, but thanks to his naughtiness in China last year, and the criminal procedings brought against him by Eric Lux, his name has been removed from the running.
The other, Rubens Barrichello, is now looking increasingly unlikely to start his 20th consecutive season in Formula One, and has been dropped from the team after two pretty unproductive seasons. The only seat left for the veteran Brazilian is the vacant one next to fellow "golden oldie" Pedro De La Rosa at Hispania.
Bruno Senna joins fellow South American Pastor Maldonado, and takes up a seat with the team that his uncle Ayrton Senna signed for 18 years previously.

What a truly uninspiring driver line-up Williams have now. Having two pay drivers is reminiscent of the last days of Jordan (when they hired Monteiro and Kathikeyan) or Tyrrell (Takagi and Rosset). Makes you wonder if the team's decline is pretty terminal.
