Spanish Grand Prix Tweet-a-Bits

Twitter – the land of opinions of 140 characters of less – can produce moments that are cool, funny and weird, but all adding something a bit extra to being a Formula One fan. What have caught our eyes in the last 7 days?  Read on to find out!

It’s Spain, so naturally it’s all about one Fernando Alonso. Being that he’s just returned to Twitter after quite a hefty absence – his last tweet was part of his Renault days – we were expecting a few “corporate” messages. Oh no, Fernando has surprised us.

For example, on Thursday we get the obligatory “what I’m up to” update;

@alo_oficial – Finished the press conference, now meeting with engineers and autograph season at 17:15 in the pitlane! I will put photos.. ;) )

In the past, that would be that. But he did post a photo. And another. And one for luck!

There are some very happy Spaniards in those pictures, so credit to Fernando for giving a bit back to the fans.

Moving on, and one thing we’ve noticed at Badger is the fun both BBC and Sky are having on Twitter. David Coulthard has joined the fray, and outside of posting photos of himself on bike and in spandex (thankfully, there’s always a bike), there’s the odd BBC adventure to cover;

@therealdcf1 - Remember 1992? @christielinford. EJ Jake and getting a feel for what London 2012 will see

Cheeky.

And here’s another, with a nice Beatles reference;

@therealdcf1 - We need a fourth member, EJ struggling to keep up….again

What can Sky counter with this? Well, David Croft seems to be bedding new recruit Johnny Herbert in well…

@CroftyF1 - @JohnnyHerbertF1 - domestic goddess :)

Are those Kiwi fruit on Johnny’s ironing board?

Lastly, Sauber and Chelsea announced a commercial link-up recently, which will see the football club’s logo appear on the C31. A couple of photo opportunities presented themselves this week, and Sauber were on hand to tweet about it. First off, footballers meet car…

@OfficialSF1Team - That’s what it looks like: @chelseafc squad experiencing a taste of motor racing, Cobham Training Ground

Don’t they just look thrilled?

And then in the afternoon, car and team bosses meet…club executive? Doesn’t really have the same ring to it, does it!

@OfficialSF1Team - #C31 at @chelseafc training ground this morning – Chelsea CEO Ron Gourlay at Spanish GP this afternoon.

We think Sauber will be much happier with a 5th placed finish this weekend though.
