Red Bull Racing are true to their original values about being fun.

To celebrate the British Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing invited 20 lucky fans to come along to their factory in Milton Keynes for an exclusive, money-can’t-buy ‘Backstage’ tour.

The event was on the Thursday of the British GP weekend so fans were treated to seeing mechanics working on the final assembly of Mark and Sebastian’s cars as well as having a tour of the factory itself, which with no exaggeration is pretty much how you’d expect some kind of space station to be.  Forget your mucky, oil-stained floors of the average factory, in F1 it’s all shiny, permanently – and some of it even dust-free too.

Seeing the vast array of processes involved in F1 car engineering was just epic, from gearbox testing to paint application techniques, rapid prototyping to aero-testing and carbon fibre work to the top-secret, restricted R&D areas, being inside the heart of such a successful team was an experience not to forget.

As well as having the tour, fans had a meet, greet and Q&A session Christian Horner and also the team’s reserve driver Sebastien Buemi who’s clearly missing the racing but happy to be part of Red Bull Racing and provided us with a drivers technical guide to the car and how, close up using a an RB7.

The team then arranged for the mechanics to take a break and give us a live demonstration of a pit-stop, before giving everyone a go at changing a tyre anywhere near as quick.  It really is much harder than it looks, but great to have get hands of be trained by Red Bull Racing’s actual pit crew.

Being friends of Red Bull Racing, we ran a competition for one of our readers and a friend attend the ‘backstage’ event – well done to Tom Martin from Leicester – who had a great day:

The Red Bull Racing Backstage event was amazing, getting the chance to see how the cars are made and being able to touch an F1 car was an experience I’d never imagined possible.

My highlight of the day had to be the Pit stop challenge and was really fun, also meeting Christian Horner & Sebastian Buemi was fantastic.

Thank you so much for selecting me as the winner of a great Badger GP competition.

Tom Martin.

Here are some photos from the day – sadly, but completely understandably photos could only be taken by the official photographer, so no spy pics here folks – it’s great to see inside the factory though and it’s events like this that show that Red Bull Racing are true to their original values about being fun and open – good work!
