The Hungarian Grand Prix may have lacked in overtaking on the track, but that won’t concern Lewis Hamilton who took a fantastic victory, his second of 2012.
This victory comes off the back of a run of difficult weekends for the 2008 champion, but it definitely cements his intentions to bounce back better than Alan Partridge and take to the fight for the 2012 title.
He may have pretty much lead from pole to the chequered flag, but it wasn’t completely plain sailing with a slow pit stop and relentless pressure from the black and gold Lotus drivers.
Grosjean fended off a storming Vettel as the lights went out, hanging him out to dry around turn 1, gifting Jenson a shot at the reigning champion. After the first lap Grosjean continued to keep tabs on Hamilton and Vettel was in the hunt too, but Grosjean’s team mate Raikkonen was the man to really challenge for the win.
During the final run of pit stops, the iceman exited the pits just as Grosjean was approaching turn 1 and the pair ran side by side around the first corner, interlocking wheels, racing close enough to see team boss Boullier nearly fall off the pit wall, but they kept it clean and Kimi stormed away with the help of a KERS boost, in pursuit of a resurgent Hamilton.
The final few laps may not have delivered quite the excitement they could have with Lewis matching Kimi’s threatening speed, but in terms of the championship overall today’s race has just made it all a little bit closer…
Here’s the full result and you can check up on the Drivers World Championship and the Constructors World Championship too. We’ll be reviewing the rest of the race and bringing you some awesome photos from the weekend shortly.
