It’s sad news that our most beloved of Serbian racing outfits has had to cancel its first test at the Portuguese circuit of Portimao. What reads as a disappointing headline, is compounded by the arguably astonishing fact that the Zoran Stefanovic-backed team has failed to secure a supply of tyres for its upcoming test run this week.
The team, which has apparently agreed terms with Kazuki Nakajima and veteran racer Jaques Villeneuve are awaiting a last-ditch entry for the 2010 season opener in Bahrain. Unfortunately however, Bridgestone are only contracted to supply to official teams, which means outfits such as USF1 and Campos (for all intents and purposes without a car) have a rather large but useless stack of tyres cached outside their respective headquarters. An F1 photographer’s wet dream by all accounts.
So, red tape rules again in Formula One. If they can overcome this; Stefan GP truly deserve that 14th grid slot.
