Valtteri Bottas arrived in F1 this year with some fanfare. Reports were that the young Finnish protege had the talent to make it into the upper reaches of the sport and help Williams build on a strong 2012, however the 2013 car has been a bit of a pig, and both he and Pastor Maldonado have struggled so far. Williams haven’t scored a point yet.
So how do you make a positive impression in F1 when your car is terrible?
Well, sticking it on 3rd in qualifying in Canada didn’t hurt!
OK, it was wet. And yes the team had obviously gambled on a wet race set-up, as Valtteri went backwards quite quickly through the race (traction out of corners and straight line speed was terrible), but he showed raw pace in pushing the car on Saturday and a mature drive among the front runners on Sunday.
Keep plugging away Bottas, the points will come.
