Chances are that you enjoyed the Italian Grand Prix at the legendary Monza circuit – rightly so, it was a cracking race. Millions tuned in from their sofa, hundreds of thousands travelled to Monza to be trackside. 25 gentlemen cycled to Monza to be trackside. Yes, that’s right, cycled!
The group of Formula 1 fans known as ride2monza cycled all the way from Silverstone to Monza, covering over 800miles in just 9 days, conquering the Alps in the process. Now that is impressive. Remember, this isn’t Bradley Wiggins and co, these are just F1 fans who’ve done plenty of training and bought a bike to take on this epic challenge.
The whole ride was self-funded by Rich Tindale and the rest of the team, who took on the challenge to raise awareness and funds for 5 charities close to the riders’ hearts – namely MS Trust, Cancer Research, Mind, Anthony Nolan and Birmingham Childrens Hospital. So far, they’ve raised over £15,000, but that could be a lot more and I’d urge you to dig deep and make a donation too. Even if it’s just a couple of quid, it all helps.
I completed their previous challenge in 2012, ride2spa (400miles in 4days) and that was a hell of a challenge, but this Monza trip is beyond comprehension. You can see photos and updates from the team on their ride2monza Facebook and @ride2monza Twitter and find out more about the story behind the challenges on their website here: ride2monza.com.
