Just when you thought F1 was all tucked in for the winter, word gets around that Ferrari’s newest acquisition Sebastian Vettel got his first taste of life with the Prancing Horse. The four-time World Champion emulated his idol Michael Schumacher by driving around the Scuderia’s test track in Fiorano for four days.

The German toured the facilities last Friday, spent the day on track on Saturday driving Fernando Alonso’s 2012 car – which Vettel pipped to the title by only three points – then moved on to spending some time in the Ferrari simulator on Sunday. Monday was spent in meetings with high level Ferrari executives and team leaders building up for 2015 (which probably wasn’t as fun as the previous three days).

It seemed to be a poignant experience for Sebastian too, as he admitted that it wasn’t the first time he’d been at the track.

“I remember I was here a long, long time ago as a little child, driving through Maranello and trying to look over the fence,” he said, “so to be here officially as part of the team, it felt fantastic to have the possibility to drive the car, and get to know the team. It was a unique experience.”

“There are a lot of fairytales about Ferrari and how it feels to drive a red car”, he gushed, “and it feels really, really special to become part of that and to be inside the car, to see the people coming, running to the track and trying to climb the walls to see the car.

“There is definitely something very magical and something that happened today which I will never forget.”

No one knows what the future will hold now Sebastian Vettel wears Ferrari red, but you have to love it when someone achieves a little dream, don’t you?
