Day 2 of the first winter F1 testing session for 2012 has finished with Michael Schumacher on top of the timesheet for Mercedes GP. Even less can be read into that than Kimi’s performance yesterday because the Mercedes team are running a 2011 spec car and Michael did more laps than everyone bar Heikki – double a grand prix distance in fact. Crikey.
There has been plenty of talk from those on the inside about Michael Schumacher and how this, his final (?) year in F1 will be when he comes good again and we’ll be seeing him on the podium. Whether there’s any truth in that, well we won’t know until March 18th and the Australian grand prix – it could be the usual positive PR where according to every team and driver, it’s is their year… Back to reality though – it’s pleasing to see a ‘Go Pedro’ banner was hanging proud, trackside in Jerez – presumably they mean for him to go quick rather than go as in leave the sport…
We’ll be bringing you our full analysis of the first winter test once it’s complete, but for now here’s the timesheet from the day’s running and collection of photos via Octane Photographic to give you a taster of the action.

Kimi Raikkonen on track in Jerez:
If pictures aren’t enough – here’s a video clip of Kimi on track in Jerez – good to see F1 cars on track again isn’t it – and good to know that those horrid excuses for racing car noses aren’t too distracting…
