Sergio Perez was a hugely impressive driver at Sauber last year, reaching the dizzy heights of chasing down Fernando Alonso in a bid for victory (yes, that did happen, remember?). But then, the deal with McLaren came about and his performances took a dive, with the second half of the season being average, and that’s a nice way of putting it.
So he arrives at the McLaren team and in the first three races, his races have been about as hot as sour cream. Ahead of Bahrain Martin Whitmarsh publicly said that he wanted Sergio to be more racey and to flex his muscles out on track. My oh my did Mr Perez respond!
…I’m not sure Whitmarsh wanted the more racey Perez to be so aggressive with his team mate, but it really was a spicy drive, going burrito-to-toe with his champion team mate throughout much of the race. Well done sir.
I’m not sure everyone will agree, but Perez is one of our ‘Hot Rods’ for the Bahrain GP, we’re impressed and want to see more of this.
