Jenson Button managed to set the fastest time in second practice for this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, before rain made the track too precarious for any faster times. The Brit edged out Romain Grosjean, who had also finished second in the morning session, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Pastor Maldonado.

With the damp weather making the track too slippery for slicks, many cars got some intermediate tyre data in the second half of the session. Several drivers had issues; both the Williams of Maldonado and Bruno Senna made hasty exits down sliproads, as well as Massa and the Caterham of Heikki Kovalainen. The Finn hasn’t had the best of weekends so far – his engine blew in the morning session, bringing it to a premature end.
