The Australian Grand Prix is the most anticipated race in the calendar – new year, new season, new names, new cars, new engines – the great unknown and just general excitement to crack open a new chapter of controversy, politics, bickering, and some racing that is a makes the Formula 1 soap opera.

This year’s Aussie GP wasn’t exactly a cracker though, yes the Mercedes ran away and controlled their pace, untouchable – nothing wrong with that, but Hamilton was barely challenged by Rosberg, so it was a run from start to finish.

Beyond the Silver Arrows we had cars and drivers dropping out before, during and just after the start of the race. There were some good performances, some not so good, but as far as racing goes, it wasn’t a classic grand prix.

Not all is lost though – Mercedes may have dominated the race, but it was none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger that dominated the event – the legend conducted probably the most favourited podium interviews ever. Great banter between him and Lewis, he clearly didn’t know Nico Rosberg’s name and asked Sebastian Vettel some silly questions.  He wrapped it all up with an “I’ll be back” joke to Lewis, top stuff.

It was a far cry from the cringe-worthy podium interviews we’ve become accustomed too of late and I hope Formula 1 maintains this idea of quirky choices, let’s see…
