“Hot Rod or Hot Dog” is our regular post-grand prix column where we review all of the driver performances in that race. As part of the process, one driver is declared as Badger’s “Top Dog”; it’s not necessarily the winner and, to be honest, it could be for anything…”

It has to be… Sebastien Buemi

Yep, that’s right Sebastien Buemi, the Toro Rosso driver who started down in 23rd following a poor qualifying and 5 place grid penalty, but came through the field to finish 8th, yes 8th!

Sure, it was a Jensational Grand Prix for Button, he was always there and the strategy paid off well for him (as did his refusal to come in and queue up behind Lewis for intermediate tyres late in the race), but well, Button’s had the ‘Top Dog’ accolade at least once already this season and in our eyes, yes Hungary 2011 was a great victory for him, especially with the lovely anniversary of it being his 200th GP, but it wasn’t a drive that justified ‘Top Dog’ status.

Paul Di Resta had a great race and many would put him second in line for Top Dog status, if only for his quick reactions to avoid Lewis doing doughnuts, but we are putting ourselves out there and handing the Hungarian GP Top Dog award to Buemi.  8th place in a Toro Rosso is an achievement, 8th from 23rd is just incredible and he did much of his progression on the race track – well done sir!  Here at Badger, we salute you!

Little known Buemi Fact – His cousin, Natacha Gachnang, is also a racing driver. She has competed in various Formula BMW and Formula 3 competitions as well as FIA Formula Two, the GT1 World Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
