Mr Vettel has a terrific afternoon – outraced the two dominant Mercedes motors and took his first win for Ferrari. Fulfilling a childhood dream and giving the red team their first win since 2013. Even the masses of folk who detested the young German’s pointy finger were pleased to see him grace the top of the podium on Sunday.
Here at the Sett, we’re over the moon to see a proper challenge arrive for the silver arrows, but Sebastian isn’t our TOP DOG for Malaysia. It’s pilot of the other red car – Kimi Raikkonen.
The Iceman has taken some stick over recent years, beaten by Alonso, a few lacklustre performances and having his motivation brought into question by some silly journalists (you know who you are). But this weekend he showed great promise in practice and appeared to be back. Come qualifying and it all fell apart, missing out on the top 10 due to the pesky timing of the rain.
He didn’t lose his cool though, he was a focus for the race – especially by young Mr Felipe Nasr who gifted the Finn a puncture and left him limping for a whole lap with just 3 good tyres. But even this setback did not deter his approach to the race as he overtook seemingly every car of the grid to end up 4th, yes 4th!
An awesome result given his qualifying and race start and further proof that the 2015 Ferrari is a solid car, ready to take on the Silver Arrows all season long. GO KIMI!
