Greats are defined by their actions. On Sunday, Sebastian Vettel overstepped a mark other drivers – like Nico Rosberg – might not like but eventually respect.
Take away the events that are dominating the headlines, and Sebatian Vettel had a solid Grand Prix weekend. An absolutely inspired decision to bolt on new intermediates gained him pole position on Saturday. He seems to be missing that early burst of pace over the first 10-15 laps that secured him so many wins the past 18 months or so, and maybe that’s a flaw others will exploit this season.
The earlier pitstops put him behind his teammate ultimately, but it’s Vettel’s actions that this race will always be remembered for – no matter what your stance is. While many are comparing him to greats like Senna and Schumacher for his ruthless streak, it’s worth noting that he sacrificed the needs of the many – Red Bull – for the success of one – himself.
If anything, it’s ammunition against his growing legend. Shame.
