Ferrari is holding its annual skiing and press event in Madonna di Campiglio, with both the F1 drivers and the Ducati riders this year. A whole raft of press have been invited, although they are a ‘select’ raft, with a number of journalists and photographers taking to Twitter saying they were not invited.
The main news this morning is the appointment of Pedro De La Rosa to its driver group to focus on ‘technical, racing and commercial activities’. With HRT disappearing out of the sport at the end of last year, De La Rosa was left without a drive, despite having a contract. Ferrari’s main interest is in his McLaren experience and they are looking to him to boost their simulator expertise – an area that McLaren are known to excel in.
A slightly more interesting line in the press release is the one from Stefano Domenicali regarding Jules Bianchi – “we are currently trying to find him a role in Formula 1 and when we have some news, we will let you know” which implies Force India discussions are still ongoing.
That’s the serious news – but what has been the reaction to the Pedro role on Twitter? Muted in the main, but with one key question being asked:
I’m just hoping @PedrodelaRosa1 doesn’t join the huge hats club now
